Illustrative Appliqué and Hand Stitch Portraits

Saturday 8 July, 11-5, £130, including materials and light refreshments.

Sue Stone is a British artist who is best known for textural, figurative compositions that have an emphasis on hand embroidery often combined with machine stitch and paint. She trained in embroidery at Goldsmith’s College and has exhibited her work widely across the UK, and in Europe, Pakistan, Japan, and the USA.

In this workshop Sue will explain how to create a portrait using only hand stitch and appliqué. Black & white images will be used as a starting point for your portrait (a selection of images will be available for you to choose from). Add your own imagination and choose your fabrics (from a selection) to reflect your own personality. Sue will bring her handling samples to illustrate the processes she uses to make her work. By the end of the workshop you will have the necessary skills to develop your own figurative work further.

Suitable for beginners and intermediate students
All materials are included but please bring your own basic sewing equipment: i.e. pins, needles, and scissors and any specific threads you enjoy using.
