Folk Embroidery with Elizabeth Loveday

Saturday 10 June, 10-5,  £120 per person including materials and a light lunch.

Elizabeth Loveday is a textile artist and illustrator from Cornwall. Using stitch and layering, she creates decorative artworks using an assortment of vintage and recycled materials in playful and unexpected ways. Loveday purposefully bruises, unstitches and stains her work to imbue each piece with its own story that will live on in the fabric long after her hands have left it.

Using a variety of fabrics of different weights, each element of her practice is carefully chosen for its history – both as material and subject. Loveday uses a mix of hand stitching and machine embroidery to create her trademark illustrations that result in delightfully whimsical illustrations full of lifelike, folklore characters.

Join us for a day-long workshop with Elizabeth where students will learn appliqué, reverse appliqué and bondaweb techniques when creating their own signature style embroidery portraits.

Fabric and drawing materials will be provided on the day, however we encourage students to bring some personal fabrics of their own. Students must bring their own image of someone to refer to throughout the workshop.

8 people per class, this workshop is suitable for beginners.
