The Art of Tapestry with Fiona Rutherford
9 September 2017, 11-5, £120 per person including lunch
Hosted by Fiona Rutherford
Self-taught, Fiona has gone on to become one of the UK’s most successful tapestry artists, exhibiting throughout Britain, in Japan, Europe, Australia and the USA. Examples of her work are held in the collection of the V&A museum, the Arts Council and that of the Elgan apartment complex in Kobe, Japan. She is also much in demand for private and public commissions.
In this one day workshop Fiona will guide you through the basic steps of tapestry weaving. Using an upright frame you'll learn to warp-up using specialist warp thread, keeping an even tension. You'll then learn how to start off the weaving process. A range of cotton and linen yarns will be provided for you to weave with.
Fiona will teach you how to change colours, create shapes and textures in your tapestry and she'll end the course by teaching you how to mount your sample ready for framing.
This class is suitable for beginners or intemediate students. You will need to bring a small sharp pair of scissors. Yarns are provided but you can bring your own if you'd like to experiment with a specific texture or colour.
Please email Emma with any dietry requirements or questions – firstname.lastname@example.org
The class will have a maximum of 8 participants.
