JANUARY 2012
Selvedge
Lesley Barnes is an illustrator from Scotlandwho, according to her blog, likes drinking tea, polishing brass buttons and wearing the occasional old lady hat. We don't mindwhat she wears as long as she keeps up the good work! We loved the Christmas animation she devised for Selvedge and although the day has passed you can enjoy it until 6 January

THE FORGOTTEN DAYS...
The days between Christmas and New Year can be an oasis of relaxation but they can also feel a little flat after all the festivities. Hopefully this newsletter will inspire you to use the time to put some of your craft skills into action, plan a trip to an exhibition or tempt you to take advantage of the annual sales, including Selvedge's! And we hope the news that your latest issue of Selvedge is on its way will be the start of a Happy New Year!

Those promoting the collections at this spring's Maison Objet are insisting "It's time to champion the right to a breath of mental fresh air, to have fun." The theme of the trade-only show is 'crazy' and if you can't get there we'll report back and let you know whether or not the lunatics are running the asylum. 20-24 January 2012,

“I am not interested in 'perfect' textiles' but rather in a cloth that is made imperfect as a result of tears, patches, darns and frayed edges. Held together with a utilitarian stitch, these random and chaotic interruptions in the pattern and surface of the cloth provide the impetus for my work.” Find out more about Matthew Harris's work in Discordant Imperfection, Matthew Harris Solo, until 8 Jan,
