Customer Reviews

I have always been really impressed with the quality of the selvedge dry goods, made with the utmost attention to detail and absolutely beautiful.  The Selvedge team have always been quick and eloquent in their response to my queries, even during their most busy times they remain consistent and ready to help.

The Selvedge shop is my favourite shop in this country. They have for example, Daniela Gregis’ accesorries. They have from top of fashion stuffs to nice ribbons which I can use to wrap presents. People are very helpful when I am buying things from the shop. So I go there to find some nice presents for people. Now I have a Tamar Morgendorff's deer head on the top of my wall like an ironic vegetarian god (we try to eat vegetarian but it's quite hard). I heartly recommend you visit their shop and have a look at the magazines.

Part of the pleasure of receiving parcels from Selvedge is the beautiful way they are wrapped. It is like receiving a very well considered present! Advice by phone or email has always been prompt and helpful.

I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your magazine. The paper used is exquisite, whenever I receive a new issue I feel like it is a present and I set it aside for a special time to read it.

The articles are well written and informative, the pictures beautiful.

Living in the U.S. I am not able to source the designers you feature without your help! The textiles you feature are available to me thanks to your magazine. The history of textiles in your articles are rich with information.

I just wanted to thank you for this wonderful magazine, it is a wealth of words and beauty.

I would like to thank Selvedge, the article on The Foundling Museum is very interesting. Its not an article I would expect from Selvedge but I have to say since reading you online from only last year I have found Selvedge to be quite a unique in combining wonderful Applied Arts and Crafts with Fine Arts, the two being presented together is fab.  That you promote textiles, crafts and art in all its forms and manner is fantastic.  I love the newsletter, thank you.

July 29-30, Graffiti Embroidery with Tilleke Schwarz, London

29th 11-5, 30th 10-2, Selvedge Studio

Tilleke Schwarz uses a mixture of graphic quality, content, and humor in her embroidery on linen. Text plays an important part in her work, the humour that is a mixture of a laugh and a tear. Inspired by he every day encountes, Tilleke uses mixed media, with a focus on hand embroidery on fine linen, creating work that could be seen next to some graffiti in the street or with your grandmother's traditional samplers. Tilleke has combined a career in the arts with a professional career for the Dutch national government (policy development), however over the last twelve years she has prioritised her art practise- exhibiting internationally and working on her books: 'Mark Making' and 'New Potatoes'.

Saturday
The day starts with collage in the morning, followed by a talk, where Tilleke will discuss her work and the processes she takes to begin visually represent her ideas. In the afternoon the class will be working towards creating their own work, using mixed medias, collage, drawing and stitch, where Tilleke will demonstrate couching.

Sunday
On Sunday students will start to embroider into their work from the previous day, building up a rich textural piece that they can continue from home. There is also an opportunity for students to bring any of their workin-progress to discuss with Tilleke.
