Win a handwoven antique rug from Rebecca's Aix worth £120

Rebecca Engels of Rebecca’s Aix Home loves nothing better than searching for interesting textiles. These Hungarian rag rugs became popular in the 19th century after the mechanisation of cloth production meant that each scrap of fabric no longer had to be used and re-used to patch and repair clothes and furnishings. Woven on narrow looms, scraps of fabric would be transformed into striped floormats and runners. Later designs known as Rips rugs were more sophisticated and had a close cotton warp of alternating colours combined with cotton yarn and rags on the weft. Rebecca’s runners date from the 50s, are hardwearing and machine washable. We have one to give away worth £120. ••• www.rebeccasaixhome.com
