Location: Minerva Workshop, Unit 2, Dove Centre, 109 Bartholomew Road, London, NW5 2BJ
Hosted by Rose de Borman
Rose makes one off silk textiles using a unique process combining hand painting with dyes and silk screen printing which are sold direct to private clients or through The New Craftsmen. Living and working in Tottenham, North London, Rose spends time on the Tottenham marshes which inspire a lot of her imagery. Her style evokes the naïve charm of folk art with an arresting complexity of colour and design.
Rose has been working as a freelance textile designer since 2006 when she won the prestigious Texprint award for her printed silk textiles. Her portfolio has spanned fashioned houses, album covers and interiors, to name just a few. While also teaching textiles and ceramics at universities, schools and adults with learning difficulties at her studio in Tottenham.
Alongside her work as a textile designer, she is studying at the Royal Drawing School on the Drawing year.
Outline of the workshop:
Rose will lead you through creating your own original silk painting using the polychromatic printing technique of painting onto silkscreens, which prints a one-off hand-painted image onto silk.
You will be shown how to make a range of marks using a brush, dyes and blocking areas out with simple paper stencils. There will also be a chance to draw a still life that can be printed onto your silk, with the guidance of Rose’s expert drawing skills.
The designs will be steamed and washed out ready to take home.
All places reserved on workshops are non-refundable, however, if you let us know you are not able to make a workshop you have booked, we will re-advertise your place and refund your fee as long as we are able to sell your place and the workshop is fully booked.
