The peoples of the Arctic cultures live in synergy with their environment having developed strategies for living with complex weather systems and changing environments over thousands of years. They have a profound relationship with weather and their life patterns and culture are based on the seasons and what they provide. 

Today four million people live in the Arctic, four hundred thousand of whom are indigenous, dispersed amongst forty ethnic groups stretching across eight nations whose roots go back 30,000 years. The cultures are diverse, as Arctic Culture and Climate at the British Museum demonstrates, beautifully illustrated by the opening gallery of spectacular costumes from different groups.
