Anya Keeley
Anya Keeley is a contemporary artist whose practice centres around wire work, combining it with a diverse range of vintage, found, and reclaimed materials. With sustainability as a core principle, Anya recently made a shift back toward textile-based creations, incorporating this eco-conscious approach into their work.
Their practice is defined by two distinct threads: sculptural anthropomorphic creatures and found object artefacts. During the first lockdown, out of necessity, [Artist's Name] began incorporating fabric into their creations after being unable to access materials for papier-mâché. This change sparked a broader re-evaluation of materials, furthering their commitment to sustainability.
The found object artefacts are an evolution from Anya's Master's studies, where they embraced the role of urban archaeologists. Drawing inspiration from mudlarking and scavenging, they collect discarded, broken, and overlooked objects, repurposing them into unique artefacts. Adopting the roles of bricoleur, bodger, and conservator, Anya Keeley creates protective, talismanic pieces with a familial aesthetic, preserving natural deterioration while giving new life and identity to forgotten materials.
