Australia, Eunice Napapangka Jack / Ikuntji Artists, Kuruyultu Fabric - Green Blend (Tencel Linen)
The designs themselves come from a long legacy of art making, which itself comes from traditional ceremonial body painting and sand drawing. Artists have then learnt to translate this into textiles through various workshops held at the art centre. The printing technique is traditional hand screen printing methods. The designs are first created on paper or sheets and painted by hand by the artists. They are then casted onto silk screens as negatives. The screens are then hand printed using water based inks onto various fabrics (cotton, silk, linen etc). This is either done in the art centre, or by our printing partners, Publisher Textiles in Sydney Australia. The fabrics are then heat-set to ensure durability. All of the stages take place in Australia with environmental considerations made at each stage.
About the printers: Publisher Textiles & Papers is one of Australia’s leading print houses. Focused on producing original patterns through traditional hand-screen printing methods we create bold and colourful textiles, hand printed wallpaper, clothing and fabric. Our fabric is printed in small batches and is available in pre-cut lengths on the website, which we update regularly. For larger quantities, please email us to discuss pre-orders.
Fabric details: Princess Silk (Dupion) 100% Silk M/Woven 120 reed Dupion 137cm (highest quality weave) Princess Silk is of the highest quality silks, with 120 reed woven dupion. Dupion fabric is tightly woven with different sized weft and warp threads which gives it a textured appearance and highly-lustrous surface. The fibres are yarn dyed separately and then machine woven to make the fabric. Many colours are yarn dyed woven with different coloured warp and weft threads, giving an iridescent look.
Recommended care instructions: always dry clean for silk dupion. Hand washing the fabric will cause it too loose that stiffness or crispness to the fabric.

Fiber / materials (list all) Water based, non-toxic inks printed on Tencel Linen. Tencel 70% Linen 30%
Tencel is a cellulose fibre, which like rayon is made by dissolving wood pulp. It is durable, resistant to wrinkles and has the silkiest drape to handle. It has excellent natural breathability with 50% greater moisture absorption than cotton. Tencel was invented with sustainability in mind so production processes and facilities are designed for low CO2 emissions and energy use. Tencel is made from guaranteed sustainability harvested trees and has a closed-loop production process. That means that 99.5% of (non-toxic) chemicals used get recycled and reused which means practically no waste and no need for new solvents.
