Handcrafted by women in and around Rudrapur village in Bangladesh, Dipdii Textiles produces unique pieces of clothing, homewares, and wall hangings made from saris. Their work contributes to reviving local textile traditions in a country where there remains an extraordinary textile culture, as well as increasing the income of women in rural areas of Bangladesh.
Dipdii Textiles are also trying reverse the usual direction of the second-hand textile trade. Normally, worn out clothes are sent to the Global South, often with a negative impact on local textile cultures and markets. With Dipdii Textiles, old saris with their vibrant surfaces upgraded by craftsmanship, are sent to the Global North in testament to the social power of craftsmanship and the presence of beauty in the used and ordinary.
