Ethiopia, Bartsi Sacred Tree Throw, Ethio Sky
Couch or Bed Throw.
Bartsi means "Giving Beauty" in the Ari language of the Ari tribe of Omo Valley, Ethiopia which is the most remote part of Africa. (It takes 14 hours to drive from the capital of Addis Ababa to Omo Valley). Ari tribeswomen paint their huts in these patterns in a tradition passed from mother to daughter. The tribeswomen now block print their Bartsi/Giving Beauty patterns onto these textiles. The printing is done in very primitive circumstances. The fabric is very soft Ethiopian cotton woven by master weavers on wooden floor looms. Some textiles feature beautiful crochet work by Ethiopian women.
Made in Omo Valley, Ethiopia. Made by tribeswomen from the Ari tribe, one of the worlds most ancient tribes.
