Chile, Ropa De Genero, Piwke Sleeveless Vest
Product name: PIWKE
Type of product: SLEEVELESS VEST
Description (story of the item):
This sleeveless sweater (crop top) is handmade with natural fibers and it creates a square silhouette down to the waist.
It is hand-woven with the "Intarsia" technique which consists in changing the color of the thread to create drawings.
The inspiration and starting point of this piece comes from the word and concept Piwke which in mapudungun (Mapuche language) means "heart". They also use this word to refer to "innovative designs in relation to the original themes treated in the Mapuche fabrics”.
This heart concept was the first thing that drove me to create the structure of this design as if immersing in a "weft and warp" led to a knitted fabric that rescues Mapuche´s luminous worldview who are deeply rooted in the colors of nature, planting, the feminine and its perfection in looms.
It is woven with baby alpaca and merino wool from the town of La Estrella in the VI region. This is part of the dry Coast of Chile, a place where the main economic activities are related to agriculture which is closely linked to the craft production. Within the process, artisan women of the area raise the alpacas, shear them, then dye them mostly with natural dyes to then move on to the spinning process, to finally start weaving.
Materials: 30% merino wool from La Estrella, VI región, Chile and 70% Aymara Baby Alpaca.
Measurements / size: 48 cm high / 44 cm wide.
Made to order.
