Colombia, Corpolienzo, Weaving
CORPOLIENZO is an artisan community of the Municipality of Charalá in Colombia. For 30 years, they have contributed to the rescue of the textile tradition through the processing and transformation of 100% natural cotton fibre, from its cultivation to the totally handmade processing. They transfer this wonderful fiber of origin into garments and fashion accessories in order to generate income and improve the living conditions of its artisans, benefiting around 50 spinners, 12 weavers and 5 growers in the region.
Most of the artisans are female heads of households who contribute to the recovery and dissemination of the "Lienzo de la Tierra" or handmade fabrics, which are the result of the transformation of fibres made by Santander's farmer hands, generating the transmission of knowledge to future generations by developing workshops in schools and creating the cotton museum, where visitors can take a tour of the entire cotton value chain and its history.
