The purpose, other than artistic expression is to fulfill a calling that only someone from the region can fully grasp. These pieces are made for the appreciation of local villagers, temples, patrons in and outside India.
The form is special because it represents a tradition that dates back several centuries. Its significance lies not only in the detail of the traditional process, but also in the cultural environment that created it. Mata-ni-Pachedi depics the Mother Goddess in all its divine forms, often painted to be hung in temples and is created by just the artists who are not permitted to be visit these temples because of their castes.
