Product name: Brown damask bag of horse hair
Type of product: Handbag
Description (story of the item):
The bag is hand woven with damask loom, where you pull up the pattern shafts to build the motif. To weave horse hair is very slowly, max 4 cm / hour. You put every horse hair by hand to the shed and must keep an eye, which way you put the hair straw, every second in different direction.
The model of the bag goes back to Scandinavian Viking age. The Sàmi people had the same model for their handicraft bags still in the beginning of 20th century. They had reindeer bones for handles and the bag itself was made of natural tanned leather or fur. My roots are in Lapland with a little bit Sàmi blood and I have been dreaming of these bags many, many years.
Materials:
Handwoven with damask loom, warp black cotton yarn, weft Finnish brown horse hair. Lining is of black silk fabric. Bone handles are dyed with onion scales.
