Genale bronze Beach Towel by Sabahar PLC (ETHIOPIA)

This product is made using 2 traditional, textile skills in Ethiopia - hand spinning cotton on a drop spindles, and hand weaving on 2 shaft, hand looms. However, the product is new for Ethiopian hand weavers. For generations, weavers made blankets and clothing, but Sabahar introduced the idea of making towels some years ago in response to global interest. We collaborate with traditional reed producers to produce 100 cm wide bamboo reeds, since traditional looms are mostly 75-80 cm. We also provide high quality heddles with 'eyes' to enable faster production. The weavers who produce these towels weave in their own homes, with adult family members involved in the warp preparation, bobbin winding, and cotton spinning. The hand spun cotton weft produces a lovely soft feel, which is highly absorbant and warm. Towels (including hand, bath, beach, and tea) have become Sabahar's best selling product locally and globally, and have enabled us to keep at least 25-30 weavers employed full time, year round. 100%  Ethiopian cotton - 40/2 warp and hand spun weft.
