Finland, Waveweaver`s Wool/ Hannele Köngäs, Goldenrod Shawl
£300.00 GBP
All weaving is done using wool from an endangered Finnish sheep breed, the Kainuu grey. There are only 1000 ewes left. Hannele participates in the shearing by sorting the wool, which is then sent to local spinnery. The spinnery makes thin, single overtwisted yarn for her. The overtwist makes it possible to use single thin yarn also for the warp, and this gives the surface of the fabric its wavy look. The fabric is hand woven and dyed with plant dyes in rain water by Hannele herself, using goldenrod, with alum as mordant. Care: Hand wash or machine wool cycle, air outdoors.
The dimensions of the shawl/throw are 53 x 200 cm. Approximate dispatch time is 6 days.
