Product name: Neem Jacket

Type of product: Baby Clothing

Description (story of the item):

The Neem Jacket from the Baby Nila collection is made of pure hand woven chambray, with a weft dyed in natural indigo to give the textile a gentle, dove grey hue. The jacket gets its name from the Neem leaf motif that has been hand-embroidered with indigo thread and peeks out of one of the pockets, like a fresh shoot after the rains.

The embroidery is done by artisans from the Sodha community in Kutch, using designs developed in the Nila studio. Nila works with the Kutch-based nonprofit organisation Shrujan, to reach out to the artisans, particularly the women embroiderers, who traditionally do not leave their home and hence struggle to find meaningful opportunities for economic empowerment. But by taking the work to them, this hurdle is overcome and the women are able to use their expert skills to create economic opportunities for themselves.

The Neem jacket, with its symbol of the healing leaf and soft, breathable cotton chambray imbued with the goodness of natural indigo, is a wonderful gesture of soothing care. It has been designed with a Madarin collar with an overlap fastening and a clean, box cut that allows movement for an active, growing child.
