Japan, Made by Yuki / Yuki Kokubo, Chartreuse Shibori Zero Waste Kimono Dress
Product name: Chartreuse Shibori Zero-Waste Dress
Type of product: Apparel
Description (story of the item): This dress is made from a Komon Kimono featuring multi-colored Shibori dots on a chartreuse background with Kikko-mon 亀甲紋 (a hexagonal shape resembling a turtleshell) woven into the silk.
Shibori 絞り is a manual tie-dyeing technique that has been practiced in Japan for over a thousand years. Shibori is extremely time-consuming, and can take weeks to complete the process for each piece, and is therefore considered high-end. This high quality crepe silk has a smooth and shiny luster with luxurious drape.
Traditionally, Kimonos are constructed from bolts of silk measuring 35-37cm wide. As a nod to the original zero-waste construction, this dress is assembled from four panels and features a split V-neckline in the front and back. A minimal design that lets the fabric speak for itself. A matching waist sash repurposed from the original kimono collar is included.
This one-of-a-kind dress is upcycled from an authentic vintage Japanese Kimono. Sustainably handmade in Japan.
