Julie Arkell, Paper sculpture, So Still even The Murmurs Sound Loud
Folk artist Julie Arkell creates whimsical creatures in her own inimitable style. Making each product either at home or in her studio, Julie makes her daydreams into a reality. Creating an inspirational work space for things she hears and reads, her products are able to come to life. Each playful sculpture takes two weeks to make as there are many drying stages in between the layering of papier mâché. Julie uses only the Guardian newspaper for the inside of her sculptures and covers the outside layer in pre-1950's literature pages. After the figure is fully crafted they are dressed in hand sewn, embroidered or knitted clothes.
This little figure has moveable arms and a charming moss green onesie with cushioned ears. 22 cm tall.
