Mexico, El Camino de Los Altos A.C., Max Quetzal Cushion
Type of product: Cushion
Description (story of the item): It is a smooth tissue with a predominant density of the threads in the warp hiding the weft that gives very dense and luminous colours into the products. It’s a traditional technique of this region. The central motif is hand embroidered once the fabric is ready. It is made according to the brocade technique: additional wefts that are introduced at the time of weaving. This type of brocade was a rescue of an ancient technique and only one woman in the group knew how to do it and she shares this knowledge with the other women of the group.
The creation of this product was made possible thanks to the joint efforts between El Camino designers together with the Oxchuc artisans from El Camino de Los Altos, through workshops in the community with all the Oxchuc weavers who are members of ECLA. Each Oxchuc woman weaves at home.
