Monochrome Purple Woolen Coat by Unsung Weavers (Greece)
This coat belongs to a series of one-off coats, hand-crafted out of woolen blankets sourced in villages of Peloponnese(Greece). The material the coat originates, dates from a time when each household was producing its own fabric in family-run looms. Each coat as such, condenses an etire cosmology: shearing and spinning wool while engaging in long conversations, dying with local herbs and plants, leaving them to soak on the riverbed, then drying them under the bright Mediterranean sun. Each coat was handcrafted in its entirety in our Athenian studio, to reassert the importance of a ritualistic fabric production and of community. Each piece is of a very limited edition, a contemporary take on an ancient craft.
