She is the director of the Textile Research Centre, Leiden, the Netherlands. Gillian has published numerous books on textiles and in particular on the history of embroidery, including the \u003ci\u003eBloomsbury World Encyclopedia of Embroidery\u003c\/i\u003e, an 8-volume series of which 4 volumes have already been published.
