Lauren MacDonald is a multidisciplinary designer, writer, and the founder of textiles studio, Working Cloth. Her approach and aesthetic have been tempered through academic studies in Material Culture and Textile Science, vocational experience in the fashion industry, and an ongoing obsession with materiality, form, and function. Her practice is focussed on traditional textile handcrafts and spans interaction design, installation, sculpture and stitched form. Her first book In Pursuit of Color: From fungi to fossil fuels: uncovering the origins of the world's most famous dyes will be out in November 2022.
Meet the Maker event description
This is a part of a series of Meet the Maker sessions that will give you a short introduction to textile makers and designers who run workshops with us. The event will consist of a meet the maker session and demonstration with Lauren MacDonald. The session will consist of an introduction to Lauren's technique of hand-smocking a shirt, a short demonstration, as well as a chance to understand more about her upcoming workshop, Hand-Smocked Shirt, which will be held on Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 November 2022. There will be time for questions at the end of her talk.
If you would like to join the Hand-Smocked Shirt Online Workshop, please book to attend at least 3 weeks ahead of time to ensure you receive the materials pack that is essential for participation in the workshop. The talk is included in the cost of the workshop.
Event recording
The event will be recorded and a recording sent to ticket holders after the event. Please allow 7 workings days for us to send you the recording.
