Workshop:
26 October: 14:00 - 17:00 BST (British Summer Time)
Online workshop, hosted on Zoom by Paola Pellino
Mending is an excellent way to preserve and extend the life of our garments. But it is not only that. Mending is also a matter of caring, feeling at peace, slowing down with some good music, and letting your thoughts flow. Teaching this workshop is Paola Pellino, who lives in Italy and works as a professional repair specialist and tutor. She is a passionate mender teaching online and face-to-face classes. After working in the fashion industry as a buyer for many years, Paola shares her love and expertise in preserving and mending textiles and clothing.
This event will consist of free access to the Meet the Maker talk with Paola Pellino on her craft of mending, followed by a workshop. If you are unable to attend the online talk on Wednesday 22 May 2024, the talk will be recorded and made available to you after the event. Please allow 7 working days for us to send you the recording.
Outline of the workshop
The class will show you how to repair woven fabrics like linen, cotton, hemp and denim, using basic stitches and patching to create beautiful patterns. You will work on a sampler found in the material pack, and then continue with patching on a garment. Participants are invited to bring a woven fabric garment they want to repair.
Techniques will focus on hand-stitching, and you will leave the session with various resources for patching, finding their style and a mended garment (or one in progress)
Level of experience
The workshop is suitable for all levels.
Materials
A material pack will be sent to participants before the workshop:
