In this section, the audience will join live tours led by CHAT’s curators to discover the history of Hong Kong’s textile industry in the Welcome to the Spinning Factory! the exhibition, as well as CHAT’s brand new Summer Programme 2021 exhibition Yee I-Lann: Until We Hug Again to enjoy the works by weavers from both sea and inland communities in collaboration with contemporary artist Yee I-Lann from Sabah, Malaysia.
Through a series of video presentations, CHAT will showcase the best of Hong Kong textile heritage through iconic textile items with in-depth interviews with their makers. These presentations will also pay tribute to the unseen labourers and textile workers of the past, celebrate the height of textile innovation and craftspersonship through the works by revered textile designer Sudo Reiko, and display the limitless potential and adaptability of textile in contemporary art.
In these paradoxical times of both isolation and connectivity, CHAT will conclude with the Textile Culture Net online exhibition, which has united 4 international textile institutions across Asia and Europe in solidarity and celebration of textile and art.
