Online workshop, hosted on Zoom by Pauline Greuell
Stencil printing is a versatile and easily accessible printing technique that can be practiced in a small corner of your home with just a few inexpensive and non toxic materials. The use of simple motifs can make a myriad different intricate layered printing patterns.
Teaching this workshop is Pauline Greuell, a self-taught fabric printer and designer from Utrecht in the Netherlands. Having had a fabric and art filled youth she initially chose another career before returning to her early inspirations later in life. After trying various printing techniques, she soon chose stencil printing as her preferred way of expressing herself on fabric. She developed her own stencil printing techniques for pattern making and refined them over the years.
This event will consist of free access to the Meet the Maker talk with Pauline Greuell on her craft of stencil printing, followed by a workshop. If you are unable to attend the online talk on 3 December 2022, the talk will be recorded and made available to you after the event. Please allow 7 working days for us to send you the recording.
Outline of the workshop
This workshop is about using different stencil printing techniques to produce different effects and patterns on fabric.
In the first part of the workshop you will learn and practice the different brush techniques to achieve a variety of different print results and then go on to using them to make patterns. You will learn how to use one simple motif to make many different patterns as well as layering patterns to create depth.
There are two weeks in-between the first and second part of the workshop to allow participants time to practice the technique.
In the second part of the workshop, Pauline will teach you how to work on more intricate motifs using more than one stencil to print.
At the end of the workshop you will be able to take any kind of inspiration from sketch to stencils and patterns. You will be able to make prints that you can use in a variety of ways: on household items like cushions, tea towels or even curtains as well as on (pre-used) garments.
Level of experience
The workshop is suitable for all levels.
