Teixidors was founded in 1983 in Barcelona to achieve social and labour integration of persons with intellectual disability by Marta Ribas, a social worker specialising in mental health, started Teixidors in Terrassa (Barcelona), a town closely linked to the history of the Spanish textile industry. Teixidors is based on the creative and pedagogical singularity of the interaction between the weaver and the loom.
Today Teixidors’ 25 expert craftsmen and women are the creators of numerous our award-winning products. Teixidors' choice of sustainably sourced cashmere for its new collection of throws strengthens its commitment to a cooperative of shepherds in Mongolia. The concept of fragility is translated into a design of 3 different structures, airy and soft and preserving the fibre’s beautiful natural tones. Each of our 20 wooden looms was built in our workshop and all our weavers have been trained at Teixidors. Our looms are based on a model that’s existed in Europe since the beginning of the industrial revolution.Their main ambition is first and foremost about assuring a steady workflow for their weavers, to help prevent social exclusion and to achieve social inclusion through labour opportunity.
