This product is 65% hand spun eri silk (weft), and 35% 40/2 cotton thread (warp). It is woven on aa traditional, 2 shaft loom. With this shawl, the technique we training the weavers on was about the importance of managing the denting of the warp on the reed to get the effect desired. Whereas weavers here usually space the warp threads very closely to produce a tight fabric, with wider spacing and only 1 thread per dent, the shawl becomes very weft faced. Since the hand spun eri silk is very soft and has lovely drape, these characteristics are captured in this product. The silk thread is entirely produced by women - from looking after the silk worms to producing the cocoons and spinning on spinning wheels. The shawl is woven at the weavers home The design is very simple, so the wearer will appreciate the beauty of the hand spun silk, and the softness of the weave. It is one of our best sellers locally and globally. The small line of coloured cotton at the bottom and the warp threads are dyed in reactive dyes. Dimensions 70 x 200 cm. Dispatch time 2-4 weeks.
