Alpaca & Wool Blanket by Peruvian Connection

A complimentary blanket from Peruvian Connection for the first 100 three-year subscribers.

Annie Hurlbut is the founder of Peruvian Connection and a true kindred spirit. She shares the Selvedge passion for Peruvian textiles and for South American camelid fibre: alpaca, llama, guanaco and vicuña. Each with its own unique characteristics, which enhance the rich tradition of Peruvian textiles. Annie discovered extraordinary hand woven mantas and ponchos in the markets of Cuzco, the ancient capital of the Incas. Since a student at Yale University researching anthropology she has been a proponent of these remarkable textiles and will be working with Selvedge to bring a representative of the tradition to The Selvedge World Fair, 2020. For the launch of this event Peruvian Connection have offered the first one hundred three year subscribers to Selvedge either a Chilca striped or Tattersall plaid blanket woven in Peru from Alpaca and wool. Scarf by Ace & Jig

Working intimately with artisan weavers in India Ace & Jig’s yarn dye woven textiles are made with as much integrity as they are designed with. All their textiles begin as raw cotton. From there they work with a dyer who mixes multiple dyes and is able to get the exact shades without even measuring. These dyed skeins of fibre are dried in the sun and wound on a wheel concocted out of an old bicycle. Then the painstaking warping process begins. They start by making small weavings called handlooms, tweaking colour, texture, pattern, and handfeel until they get the fabric just right. ‘It's only once we look at the textile and get that magical feeling that we pass the final designs on to larger autolooms for production’. This issue Ace & Jig are offering a two-toned scarf that ties around the neck, worth, $125, to the first 100 three year subscribers. www.shop.aceandjig.com
