Outline of the workshop
The workshop, hosted by Vamika founder, Juhi Sharma, offers a comprehensive exploration of Kabeliya embroidery, a traditional art form on the verge of extinction. Participants will delve into the rich cultural heritage of the Kabeliya community, also known as the Snake Charmers, renowned for their unique embroidery techniques. Led by skilled artisans and members of the Kabeliya community, particularly women, the workshop provides an in-depth understanding of the intricate embroidery patterns inspired by snakeskin and the lifestyle of the community.
Through a series of interactive sessions, participants will learn the history, significance, and techniques of Kabeliya embroidery. From basic stitches to advanced designs, they will receive hands-on guidance to create their own embroidered pieces. The workshop aims to not only preserve the art form but also empower the Kabeliya community by showcasing their craftsmanship and providing them with a platform to share their cultural heritage. Participants will gain valuable insights into the traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance of Kabeliya embroidery, fostering appreciation and awareness for this endangered art form.
Level of experience required
This workshop is open to participants of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced individuals.
A material pack will be sent to participants before the workshop containing:
- Fabric: white cotton and naturally dyed coloured fabric appropriate for embroidery, each measuring 16'' by 16'' in inches
- Embroidery threads: a variety of colourful cotton yarns in four different colours.
- Needles: assorted sizes of embroidery needles for different types of embroidery patterns
- Mirrors: different sizes of mirrors for incorporation into embroidery designs.
- Ruler: a ruler for creating straight lines in embroidery designs.
- Small cotton fabric: a small cotton fabric for packaging all materials together.
- Instruction Booklet: an instruction booklet containing step-by-step guidelines and tips for embroidery techniques to assist participants throughout the workshop.
Please note: material packs are shipped on an insured, trackable delivery service. Any customs duties, delays, lost or undeliverable packages are the responsibility of the customer. Once a material pack leaves the workshop tutors' hands with a tracking number, the seller has no further obligation to the buyer.
Recording:
The workshop will be recorded and shared with participants after the workshop. Please allow 7 working days for the recording to be sent to you.
Workshop cancellation policy
All places reserved on workshops are non-refundable. However, if you let us know you cannot make the workshop you have booked at least two weeks in advance of the workshop, we can offer a credit note.
