Online event, hosted on Zoom by Claire from Wool and Nature
Claire creates hand painted and naturally dyed textiles in her 300 year old hay-loft studio in the mountains in the South of France.
As an illustrator Claire works with colour every day and she was curious to explore the colour world of natural dyeing, understand more about plants and the colours they give us so that she can be even more connected to the beautiful nature that surrounds her.
With plant extracts or foraging wild plants close to her home she is dreaming up colours and botanical illustrations. All colours are chosen intuitively or what she has found while foraging or picked from her garden.
Claire thoughtfully creates textile pieces based on her love of art, illustration and nature. Each textile piece is naturally dyed and painted by hand using brushes and time.
Meet the Maker event description
Claire will talk about her natural dye adventures and life as an illustrator. She will talk about her home in the mountains, and how it inspired her to explore the world of natural dyeing.
Claire shares how she established a new way of making illustrations in her natural dye studio, working with the colours of nature. She will talk about the creative process of painting botanical illustrations for textiles and how to choose a colour palette.
Inspired by ancient craftmanship from around the world, she will be briefly touching the techniques she uses to create contemporary hand painted textile pieces. Also, she talks about embracing the unknown part of the creative process, learning from mistakes she makes along the way and how happy surprises lead to more depth in the magical world of natural dyeing.
