The Language of Tapestry, until 1 June 2024, Petersfield Museum
On now until 1 June 2024
Katharine Swailes and Caron Penney bring a glimpse of their work and life together for The Language of Tapestry. Both artists have lived and worked in Sussex for the last 25-30 years and use the technique of hand-woven tapestry. They met at the West Dean Tapestry Studio, where they were professional master weavers for 20 years. Swailes brings her structural small-format woven artworks investigating process, components, and her dialogue with the language of weaving. Penney’s love of the systems and patterns of weaving is seen in the works Harmony and Dissonance, both of which seek to represent the repetition and sequential existence of daily life.
