Uganda, Mekeka Designs, The Market Tote
Product name: The Market Tote
Type of product: Accessory
Description (story of the item): In 2020, North Carolina bag designer and maker Rachel Elise, began a partnership with Mekeka Designs, utilizing our collection of bespoke global textiles and incorporating them into a limited run of RE products. The particular weave on this bag features clay-dyed bark cloth made by ninth-generation bark cloth makers, as well as raffia. This woven panel is featured on both the front and back of the bag and is bordered by black waxed canvas. The bag is accented with a tassel of ceramic beads, made by students of the Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped in Kampala, Uganda. This bag is fully lined with cotton canvas. With four large interior pockets and an interior key clip, this bag can handle just about anything you throw at it (and in it!). Due to the limited edition and handmade nature of this product, the color of ceramic beads may vary.
Slight variations in tone, surface, and structure are to be expected. Goods vary in design 5 -7%.
*Textiles can engage our senses and bring about a sense of calm when we use them in our everyday. With each bag purchase, each person will have access to a live (recorded option available) grounding therapy workshop. Cohosted by counselor and trauma therapist Tiffany Reves (MA, LPC-S, NCC), we will explore how to engage with our textiles as tools for self-care and grounding. Tiffany will lead participants in activities that engage with our senses and teach us how to bring more balance into our lives.
