Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand, using only the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles. This is ‘hedgerow couture’, the greenest of slow fashion. It’s also the medicine that helps him survive the death of his wife, which leaves him and their four children bereft, and how he finds a beautiful way to honour her.
Made over many years with great love and care - and for an extremely low crowdfunded budget - the film and the dress are both labours of love in the truest sense. That spirit has also carried the distribution of The Nettle Dress. People’s goodwill and enthusiasm - via word of mouth and telling friends and family - has led to us selling out 25 cinema screenings! It’s been an organic and inspiring process, creating spaces for so many connections and conversations.
This will be a live screening event followed by a Q&A discussion with the film producer Dylan Howitt and Allan Brown. This event will not be recorded.
