LL manufacturing takes place in 20 decentralised villages in Leh and Kargil districts in India, with the distance between villages and Leh town being 10 to 250 kms at an altitude of 9000-17000 feet.The decentralised village centres manufacture hand-knits like sweaters, socks, caps and gloves along with handwoven like shawls, stoles and scarves with Ladakh Pashmina and Wool.
Looms of Ladakh, a Producer Owned Brand, ensures the participation of the designer and producer herder-artisans in management. They have the know-how of judging whether the business is conducted honestly and efficiently. Its producer management body is elected once every three years from among the member-owners in all the villages.
The Producer Owned Brand is establishing decentralised apparel manufacturing industry in remote villages of Leh and Kargil region of Indian trans-Himalayas through infrastructure development, capacity building, institution building and brand building – all of it simultaneously.
