Win a Lu Mason rag rug
Lu Mason (@lumasonbaker) moved to York in the 1990s and soon became fascinated by the local tradition of rag-rug making. With the ambition to only use recycled materials, Mason made this tiger rag rug in Autumn 2022. It is the first in an endangered animals series. Her rugs are made in a traditional way, hooking strips of cloth through a hessian backing. For Mason, rag-rug making is an alchemical process, a way to transform a pile of old clothes and charity shop finds into something new and beautiful. The challenge of making a rag-rug is the unpredictability of what the rags yield. She turns this into an advantage by mixing up the rags, using multiple colours to fill a space; the tiger itself is made up of eight different garments, which enabled her to pick out the tiger’s stripes with very vivid oranges, blended into darker oranges and browns. We have the Tiger Rug to give away worth £499.
Enter to win, competition closes noon, 15th April 2023.
