Win a Pair of Babouche Slippers by CALLA Paris
Paris-based designer Calla Haynes, originally from Toronto, studied Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design in New York. After gaining experience in luxury fashion in Paris, she launched her eponymous womenswear label in 2009, achieving both critical and commercial success. However, by 2015, Calla sought to explore more sustainable avenues of design. She put her ready-to-wear line on hold and shifted her focus to collaborations with high-end brands worldwide, working as a textile designer and design consultant.
Inspired by this collaborative spirit, Calla began working with artisans in Morocco, bridging the gap between European luxury and Berber craft. This led to "The Boucharouite Project," an initiative centred on two key themes of sustainable design: recycling textiles and supporting traditional craftsmanship. The project includes an ongoing series of rugs created with female weavers and a collection of Babouche slippers handmade in Marrakesh’s souk using upcycled vintage Boucharouite rugs. The project has also expanded beyond Morocco, including a furniture collection in collaboration with Toronto-based Coolican & Company and a new partnership with French clog makers Bosabo.
CALLA is deeply committed to raising awareness about textile waste and the importance of supporting artisans.
