Outi Pieski, until 6 May, 2024 Tate St Ives, Cornwall
On now until 6 May 2024.
Outi Pieski is a Sámi visual artist from Ohcejohka, Finland. She explores the culture and identity of the Sámi people – native to the Sápmi region, which now includes the northern part of Scandinavia and the Kola peninsula in Russia. Pieski incorporates the traditional craft practice, duodji, with textile materials, as a way of revitalising connections between past and present generations. The exhibition raises important questions about indigenous people’s rights and the relationship between humans, animals, and nature.
