Representing room-sized floral carpets are a Laver Kirman, circa 1800; a singular Tabriz, circa 1825; and a Garden of Paradise Dorasht with staggeringly diverse fauna and flora. Two camel hair Bakshaish–one with a rare split-palmette design and the other a repeating lion pattern–and a 175-year-old Serapi are among the examples of room-sized village carpets sold last year.

Claremont president and founder Jan David Winitz, who organised the exhibition, commented: 'This year we were fortune to be able to offer particularly extraordinary examples from a wide range of weaving traditions and our clients' ability to discern this reflects a tremendous maturity.' Mr. Winitz has also created 'The Oriental Rug Market Pyramid,' a 6-tier method for demystifying today's myriad offerings, and 'The Nine-Point Methodology' to support shoppers in determining at which level they wish to become active and how to recognise the extremely rare from the commonly found.
