ETHER: A COLLABORATIVE TEXTILE INSTALLATION
Textile designers and painters, Melina Finkelstein (Oakland, CA) and Sayali Goyal (Delhi, India) are proud to announce, Ether, a collaborative textile installation and conversation at the Melina Finkelstein Gallery until Saturday to 29 September 2023.
“Energy forms the basis of human life and the cosmos while also serving as a bridge between the worldly and divine realms. In the ever-changing world, the fusion and balance of energies have been central to creation and existence. Human creativity and design decisions too, are consciously rooted in this harmony and thus, adopt the characteristics of nature – a timeless connection between the intangible and the tangible. Ether puts light on these symbolic and highly valued aspects of human consciousness and spiritual experiences. Both artist’s explore form, materials, textures, and aesthetics as an attempt towards blurring the boundaries between the real and the abstract.” -Sayali Goyal
About Sayali Goyal
Sayali is an abstract expressionist inspired by nature and the cosmos. Her artist persona ‘Indigo and charcoal’ represents the colours of her soul, and its dual nature of water energy ( heart ) and air energy ( mind). She likes to use multiple mediums to express herself, and finds this process therapeutic and almost meditative. Trained as a textile designer at the University of Arts London, mixing textiles with paints was an obvious extension to her work. Her curiosities about the cosmos and motivation to find meanings of life via philosophy, religion and art history is reflected in her work too. The artist says, ‘My body and mind responds most calmly when I am around nature. I love the sound of rain, watching the night sky or a sun set, being one around water bodies, or around birds and forests. They bring me joy and hope. I can translate this feeling through my work. Here I let my inner feelings be expressed to the outer world. The intuitiveness of this process where I am in the pure state of heart, with no mind involved, is my most authentic self. Strokes and colours become vehicles and allow me to flow.
