New & Lingwood announce collaboration with Lisa King
The luxury British menswear brand, New & Lingwood, have created a unique collaboration with the London-based print artist, Lisa King, in a celebration of heritage and slow craft. Together they have created a capsule showcase of garments using reworked vintage textiles, which will be displayed for London Craft Week, from 13 - 19 May 2024.
Lisa has worked with New & Lingwood’s Creative Director Tom Leeper to reimagine New & Lingwood’s signature pieces, using Lisa’s unique Indonesian batik fabric collection, all expertly crafted by the atelier on Jermyn Street. Fusing British tailoring with Southeast Asian cloth & craftsmanship, the pieces will be on display at New & Lingwood’s neighbourhood store on Chiltern Street for the duration of Craft Week.
On uncovering a vast archive of Thai, Indonesian and Japanese textiles left to her by her late mother, Lisa embarked upon a journey to find out the story behind the fabrics and felt inspired to honour the striking collection by incorporating Batik, the art of wax-resist dyeing into her own textile practice. In 2023 New & Lingwood launched RE:NEW which was foregrounded in craft, slow production, cloth innovation, recycling, resale and repair processes.
The initiative repurposes cloth off cuts into one-off opulent and elaborate dressing gowns (a style that the brand is globally renowned for), as well as giving customer’s old clothes a second life. The synergy between RE:NEW and Lisa’s passion for preserving and progressing the art and sustainability of the ancient batik craft led to the new collaboration which fuses heritage cloth with the finest modern menswear tailoring.
