WARDROBE REVOLUTION WEEKEND: PAIWAND
Founder of Paiwand, a unique textile studio that repurposes fashion waste into upcycled handwoven textiles, Ashita Singhal is a weaver, textile artist, and social entrepreneur. She believes in working with limited resources and local materials. Being born and bred in Delhi, one of India's most polluted cities, she started to see waste as a resource and a material for her design explorations. Via her design studio, Paiwand, she challenges the conventional norms of textile design while focusing on the importance of craft and the need for sustainability. The studio is developing a collaborative movement to transform the social and environmental standards in the fashion and textile industries while providing fair and safe working conditions for weavers and workers.

Committed to challenging the conventional norms of textile design while emphasising the value of crafts and sustainability, Paiwand repurposes fashion waste into meaningful, high-quality textiles, reducing the burden on landfills.

With a vision to revive traditional Indian craft practices by introducing waste as a raw material aligns alongside preserving cultural heritage by providing sustainable livelihoods for artisans, the studio collaborates with design houses and fashion brands to upcycle waste into repurposed textiles, thus moving towards innovative and sustainable business practices. By bridging the gap between different stakeholders, the studio is fostering a more interconnected and responsible fashion ecosystem. Through Paiwand, Singhal aims to inspire others to adopt similar strategies and contribute towards a more environmentally and socially conscious landscape.
