Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are part of a unique geographical region that is rich in fibre resources. For the Wardrobe Revolution Weekend, Francine will introduce the audience to the fascinating history of Vancouver Islands' fibre, the current state of the fibre economy, and where this vibrant fibreshed hopes to go in the future.
Built on greed and profit, our current textile and garment industries are outdated. We need a new system that considers the wellness of animals, people, and the environment at every level of production.

The era of local, sustainable, transparent textiles is upon us. The public is becoming more aware of the unsustainable and exploitative practices used by the current global textile industry and the devastating effects it’s having on people and our planet. It’s time to slow down and bring our textiles home.
To change this system, we must begin with ourselves. We can’t avoid the amount of interaction we have with textiles; the world would be hard and cold without them, and we would lose an important means of self-expression. But we can make choices that will support change.
