Winter Markets: A Hand Made Journey Through the UK and Ireland
Last weekend saw the return of the Selvedge Winter Fair, which always marks our turn into the Christmas season with pure handmade joy. The halls were filled with textiles, craft makers, and the kind of festive spirit that lingers long after you’ve left with a wrapped parcel under your arm. And as the glow of the fair settles, we’ve gathered a selection of markets across the UK and Ireland where that same spirit of craftsmanship and community continues to shine.
This is by no means a definitive list — more a map of possibilities. Local village hall noticeboards, favourite makers’ Instagrams, and neighbourhood newsletters will reveal even more. And if you stumble upon something wonderful, we’d love to hear about it.
There is a particular kind of magic in buying handmade at this time of year—an exchange of care between the person who spent time shaping an object and the person who chooses it with intention. Throughout these winter markets, you’ll find that sense of connection glowing warmly between stalls, makers, and visitors.
And it’s in that spirit of connection that our festive journey begins...

In Neath, Port Talbot, the Christmas Open Day at Aberdulais on 13 December offers a gentle, family-friendly celebration of local craft. Browse artisan stalls, join in card- and decoration-making, listen to Christmas stories, meet Santa, and enjoy carols by the Waterwheel Singers. Free to attend, it’s a heartening reminder of the value of slow, local, handmade traditions.
It’s also well worth taking a walk around the National Trust site itself. Aberdulais has long been shaped by the power of water: for centuries, the Dulais River has carved its way through the gorge, enabling copper-smelting, ironworking, textile milling, grain processing, and eventually becoming a pioneering centre for 19th-century tinplate production. Today, Aberdulais is entering a new chapter through its partnership with St Giles Trust Cymru, an award-winning social justice charity working to support people facing adversity.

In London, the Museum of the Home hosts its Winter Market on for one day only on Saturday 29 November. This year’s market brings together an exciting gathering of independent makers, from hand-painted textiles and contemporary ceramics to vintage treasures and bespoke upholstery, it’s a treasure trove for slow, intentional holiday shopping.
The Museum itself joins the celebration: Bernard’s Trees will pop up in the gardens with a charming Christmas tree lot, while mulled wine and festive treats—including sweet bakes from Rinkoff’s bakery—create a cosy, seasonal atmosphere. Visitors can also take their time exploring the galleries, browsing one-of-a-kind gifts, or enjoying a quiet moment in the gardens with something warm in hand.
One of the Winter Market’s real delights is that it coincides with the Museum’s much-loved Winter Past exhibition, open from 10am–5pm and free to wander. Each year, the Museum’s Rooms Through Time are dressed for the festive season, offering a beautifully immersive journey through centuries of home, warmth, and celebration.

Cornwall
Ceramics by Frankie Fisk. Featuring at the Jubilee Wharf Christmas Fair.
In the far southwest, the Jubilee Wharf Christmas Fair in Penryn on 13–14 December brings together 30 talented makers in a lively waterfront setting. Free to attend, the fair unfolds across the ZedShed, the Jubilee Wharf courtyard, and into the ground-floor studios. Saturday runs from 10am–5pm, while Sunday offers a slightly shorter but equally spirited day from 11am–4pm. Inside and out, you’ll find a joyful mix of ceramics, textiles, jewellery, prints, homeware, and handmade treats—each one a reflection of Cornwall’s rich craft culture.
Part of what makes this fair so special is its home: Jubilee Wharf, an award-winning eco-development built using pioneering sustainable construction techniques. Jubilee Wharf brings together workshops, housing, health rooms, a nursery, and the ZedShed hall—all centred on community, creativity, and low-impact living.
The Jubilee Wharf Gallery, run by Maya Ullman, adds to the creative hum. A shared workshop and exhibition space, it showcases work made in the adjoining studios and has played a key role in placing Jubilee Wharf firmly on Cornwall’s artistic map.
With Muddy Beach café open throughout the fair for food and drink, the whole weekend becomes a relaxed, waterside celebration.
