12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: KHADI AND CO

Danish textile designer Bess Nielsen launched Khadi and Co in 2004, to pursue her fascination with handwoven textiles. Throughout her 30-year career, she has travelled extensively to and across India, working with many skilled craftsmen.
Her journey into the rich legacy of Indian textile crafts led her to understand the profound cultural significance of khadi, a humble cotton fabric symbolic of India’s Freedom Movement. In the light of Gandhi’s message of self-reliance, Bess is convinced craftmanship and handloomed fabrics are crucial. Naturally, her one-of-a-kind brand conveys the values of her work ethic and creativity.

Hand spun yarns have an indisputable organic quality; making garments that are light, breathable and uniquely soft on our skin. A handspun and handwoven cloth, khadi is Bess Nielsen’s long-lasting inspiration and ultimately her life’s work. While exploring the infinite beauty of khadi weaves, Bess has developed a deep connection with India that gently permeates her minimalist designs.
