12 Days of Christmas: Lapuan Kankurit
Until Thursday 19th December, we will feature a different competition prize on the blog every day, it's Selvedge's 12 Days of Christmas. You have until 6pm GMT on 19th December to enter all the competitions.
Today, we feature Finnish homewares company Lapuan Kankurit. Lapuan Kankurit is offering one person the chance to win a blanket from its METSÄ collection.
The Lapuan Kankurit collection includes sustainable spa and sauna linen textiles, table and kitchen textiles as well as wool blankets, scarfs and cushion covers designed by the company's young designers.
Lapuan Kankurit designs are woven in its own weaving mill at Lapua, Finland. The skillful jacquard weaving and finetuned material treatment skills are the result of generations of learning in the family business. Lapuan Kankurit uses all natural raw materials; linen and wool. The company knows all of the working stages of each product from thread to finished item.
The METSÄ collection includes a wool blanket and cushion covers as well as washed linen towels and sauna covers. The METSÄ (FOREST) pattern, designed by Tong Ren, echoes the designer’s interest in nature. “It is peaceful, but full of textures”, Tong describes. He says he often walks in Lammassaari, Helsinki and even looking at the same tree can spark a different idea each time, "It's always important for me to think about how tiny I am compared with nature."
