We are now looking for artisans to take part in the Selvedge World Fair 2021 (31 Aug - 4 Sept 2021). Applications are opening at 6 pm today and we want to hear from you if you are a maker of handmade textiles. The event will represent as many textile traditions as possible and will offer lots of opportunities for visitor engagement. As with this year’s event, the 2021 World Fair will be held online and will include virtual workshops, talks and panel discussions. We welcome new ideas for virtual events and for ways to bring visitors closer to your work. In your application you will need to describe your processes, the materials you use and how this relates to your cultural identity. Priority will be given to makers who use local natural materials and sustainable processes. You can read more about the application process and requirements as well as access the application portal here.

The first Selvedge World Fair took place 3rd - 5th September 2020. The three-day virtual event celebrated cloth, culture and creativity, presented the work of master artisans, bringing together varied - and in some cases endangered - textile traditions from around the world. Visitors were able to buy handmade treasures, take part in workshops and watch and participate in talks on textile-related themes. Some artisans have decided to keep their stores open and you can browse their items to get an idea of the types of work represented.

Feedback from makers who took part:
“Thank you for the opportunity to connect Multicolores with a much wider audience. It was fun to participate, and the event has inspired us to think of new ways to connect with our supporters and grow our audience virtually. Thank you for that,” Cheryl Conway-Daly, Director of Development, Multicolores.
“Personally, I met a lot of interesting designers and artisans through the event. I listened to talks for hours and enjoyed show and tell from around the globe. I look forward to the chance to meet some of these people and possibly collaborate once this odd period is over.” Denise Huang, Suzhou Cobblers.
Applications will be reviewed by a selection panel in January 2021. We welcome suggestions for the panel, which this year will reflect the diversity of the participants.
The application portal will be available here at 6 pm - we look forward to receiving your applications and proposals. Before submitting your application, we ask that you please familiarise yourself with the requirements, gather all necessary documents, photos and materials needed to complete the application.
