Back of the Knit
The rest of the world may be completely engrossed with the World Cup but at Selvedge, as always, we’re focused on more important things such as knitting. Yet now the two have been united by sports giant Nike. The company’s latest football boots have been dubbed ‘the coolest thing to happen to knitting’ and are apparently going to be a “game-changer in international football”. And Nike is not alone in adopting knit, Adidas has debuted its Primeknit boot , claiming it is the world's first knitted football boot and explained that using yarn means that the shoe doesn't produce any waste material.
The Nike Magistaboots, made from a waterproofed light yarn, are manufactured using futuristic fly-knit technology. The result is a shoe that fits the foot like a glove yet provides the support and protection required when running and kicking. Frankly it’s all very impressive but sadly too late to help England…
